I woke up this morning to find a note from my good friend Magz, who apparently has titanium coated brass balls, telling me he seeded the archive I had kept over my time on Newsvine. It contained things such as articles I was proud of, as well as complete records of various storms I had weathered. I don't know how long the seed lasted, but it was collapsed before I even read his note. The title I'm using here is the one Magz used on Newsvine.

"The thing that always struck me about DPM's writing was that for someone who wrote so many words, he was a very efficient writer - didn't stray from topics with any frequency. I remember talking with Viki Babbles Gonia about the Vine's history and how, during an organized prank where Viners wrote for each other, whoever wrote for Dennis typed something dismissing the efforts of new Viners and that caused the most drama because that was completely the opposite of his experience on the Vine.

In a roundabout way, I owe Dennis my job. I'll miss him." ~~ Newsvine Moderator Tyler Adams

Contributions to Newsvine.

January - March 2006: Beta tester. Suggested new features, participated in the writing of the Code of Honor.

March 2006: Newsvine went public. Continued to lobby for the ability for Viners to add images to Newsvine.

October 2006: Ability to add images added. Began posting artwork to Newsvine, the first to do so, with this series. Set the precedent for all future articles where art or photography was the main content. Nominated for RAV, which was not awarded.

The JDL fiasco, The infamous Prank (2.28.2008 Never Forget!), Emailgate... it's all here. Every single article. The names have not been changed to protect the guilty.

    • borehead

Some of those are not my favorites.
Some I loathe, and its not from the salad days, but, well I think you know . I was pissed when you were sold out over the petition, which in my history with you, was your finest hour. My thoughts anyway, and the email gig. You stood strong when anyone else would have folded. I was proud to know you.
      They never won you know.

      • http://dennispmccann.com/ Dennis P. McCann

Oh, I know. A set up from the start. Pretty pathetic one at that. But hey, for some people that's the best they can do, and even that took five of them.

A couple days ago I wrote a very short article here about leaving Newsvine. The title was 'It is finished.' At the same time I had the Thank you article going on Newsvine. Global came on there and get this - accused me of plagiarizing Jesus Christ." Apparently JC is the author of (or holds the copyright) on "It is finished."

        I didn't know that.

      • borehead

        I was gauking nearby,
That Coh keeps people in check, and it has held me back. I would've loved to step it up a knotch.

      • Encantados

No sense 'fishing' in a mercury pollute lake...our bore. :)

      • borehead

Its toxic for sure Encantados, toxic.

      • bonosrama

LOL! Plagiarizing Jesus Christ? That's got to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Let me know if Jesus winds up suing you. :)

  • borehead

Yep, thats it. Friggin awesome legacy.

    • http://dennispmccann.com/ Dennis P. McCann

Having all this stuff in one place will be useful to others when the JDL assholes try to lie about what happened back then, or when people twist the Prank into something it wasn't. The articles, most of them long gone from NV, are all right here for reference. .

      • IanWalter

It was also a useful archive for personal reflection. Fort Defiance (not the original, with the epic battle comments, which was summarily executed by Newsvine, but this copy is still a welcome memory, so thank you for that, Dennis), email-gate, the COH series, Picasso/Iarnuocon, JDL, and so many other good and worthy works of Dennis, in particular, but also so many other fine Old-School Magicians---mostly all gone. On reflection it was....well...more than enough of an archive to allow me to ackowledge that it was time for me, personally, to move on from Newsvine altogether. Too much water under that bridge for me to carry on. I hope they get some old magic back. But...not my concern.
Your legacy didn't die there, Dennis. It just moved here. Same with Iarnuocon or whomever else comes trailing in. More good work to be done.

      • storyartist

'''''Your legacy didn't die there, Dennis. It just moved here.''''''
Ian----you hit the nail square on the head. That's exactly how I've felt, but the words didn't come. We've been walking around that one all week without stating the obvious. Thanks, buddy.

      • IanWalter

You're welcome, buddy. Happy to help and hope I did.

    • bonosrama

      Indeed it is.

  • Encantados

I remember that comment by a viner about HR being self promotion & your response. It was clear...guess we know who reported it.

How can someone Not know what High Resolution is vs going to a website? Ahh, yes the computer illiterates that think, not know, computer terms & haven't accessed a Computer Term Dictionary. They are online...simple to find...oh well, some don't want to learn.

Time to move forward now tho...:)

    • http://dennispmccann.com/ Dennis P. McCann

Did you really expect a Newsvine moderator to understand Newsvine's rule about self-promotion? Nah, that's just expecting too much...

  • BobChristenson1951

Read with interest sir. Pretty compelling stuff. Really didn't understand the depth of PatN's paranoia. Some amazing crap.

  • bonosrama

I saw that article by Magz, but when I went to read it, it was already collapsed. (Surprise, surprise).

  • Santino

Great contributions indeed. You're a big reason why I'm here at FBA Dennis. I always admired your writing and enjoyed sitting back and reading your ability to support an argument while combating misinformation from others.

Those were some kind well put words from Tyler.

Unfortunately I cannot get involved in the shit storm articles about you, either for or against, on NV. Just not worth it to me. Too many assholes who contribute next to nothing to the site at yet are so quick to attack you. That's what you get for embarrassing so many bigots who hate Muslims I guess ;).

    • storyartist

kind well put words ... but not recent ones. (Just couldn't stand to see that one misunderstood)

      • Santino

        Thanks for the clarification storyartist.

      • IanWalter

It's not a bad call santino, to avoid the trouble. Dennis is the one here who has been wronged. His friends want to defend him, and rightly so. I've done so before, with all I was worth, and it went nowhere. Others are doing so now, for all they are worth, and it will go nowhere. Others have done so before, with all they were worth, and it went nowhere. flop. flop. flop. Dennis moved on, following others who moved on, cause he had enough. He is hurting, he'll take some time to be angry, then he'll say pfffft. And we'll go about our FBA business, as newsvine will go about their business.
Everyone loyal to dennis should know this. What you say there matters little anymore, unless....you spend time here--which matters much. Iarnuocon is also here. He had a very long and splendid reign at newsvine. Brilliant mind, concise, tight logic, blistering. They hounded him out. Do you care about him. Then come back here. I got neck deep several years back with winsome and syn and dennis and others. we got our asses kicked. then I got waist deep during the coh/picasso articles. and we got our asses kicked. Then dennis' fucking art blog was suddenly self promotion. And now? I'm not even ankle deep now. I'm out. My exit article has been up since last night. Why less and less? Cause the fact is it doesnt matter what i say there, about dennis or anything else. Now serving 400 million whatevers. But here...i think if i dont show up here for a few days...it matters.
So...defend him like crazy on newsvine, or dont, who gives a shit, cause if you care about him or iarnuocon, or the others who are here or should be here and might be here, or what dennis stood for over there, or any of us stood for over there....then do this...nothing but this...come here, write articles...and get it on. Virtue actually matters. So...Thats loyalty to dennis and what he stood for. The rest is just...bullshit fish food for the archives.
Santino, if you keep showing up, and participate, its all good. Let them talk shit over there, ignore it, and keep on doing your thing over there, just come over here and do more of your thing here too. Maybe...20 or 25 percent of your time spent over there...Cause you're valued and we want you. No litmus test, baby. No pressure. Give us a little while, a few weeks or a few months, and we'll take the fucking pepsi challenge against that site or any other place on the web, bro. So..that's that.
wow. that was....sorta long. This message has been brought to you by Jameson. And Murphy. somebody email me if i need to delete this later, cause I'm gonna have a headache.

      • Encantados

if I ever Learn to navigate the site...sometime...& post..I'll be here too. :)

      • http://dennispmccann.com/ Dennis P. McCann

Just email some of that Jameson...

      • storyartist

santino---it didn't say. I remember reading it before, so I know it was from a time prior to all the recent activity, probably when he had medical problems. I don't believe Tyler wrote any kind words about Dennis leaving now.
